Authors and Food!
Authors often get asked what are their favourite foods. I personally love tons of veggies, fruits, beef, chicken, Atlantic Canadian fish and bread. Bread is a very big part of my diet along with potatoes in their various forms. The Irish connection maybe?
Sadly, I have allergies and celiac so my choices are sometimes limited but there is one company’s flour that I have used for years and will forever sing their praises. They are Australia’s beloved home grown Laucke Flours. I use tons of their Gluten Free flour mix in recipes on everything from bread, pancakes, cakes, cookies, muffins, pizza— you name it! And although I cannot eat their regular flours (non-GF) due to my celiac issue, I have used them to make bread and other treats for people who can have wheat. And partakers always rave about the taste and texture of items made with this company’s flours. Just one example: their scone mix. It is incredible and makes the fluffiest, tastiest, melt-in-your-mouth scones you’ll ever encounter in the food world!
You may be wondering why I have written about this flour company. The answer is simple. It is purely because of my own love of their great products. This is not a paid advert. Just a happy customer who loves to share the word on wonderful quality treasures I find—whether it be books, food, music or other things. Also, I love a good history story and this company has a fascinating one. As stated on their website:
Laucke Flour Mills are the last of Australia’s industry founding family owned and operated independent Millers, and the origins of this business can be traced to the arrival of Friedrich Laucke in South Australia in 1895.
Friedrich arrived from Germany in his quest to “see the world”…
It is a wonderful story and I encourage you to visit their site to read the tale. After 126+ years, much dedication, hard work and persistence, this company has grown into an enviable business with top quality products.
The current generations of Friedrich’s successors continue his tradition of hard work and innovative thinking, seeking to be regarded by customers, suppliers and employees as the market leading and foremost provider of quality processed-grain products.
