To say I am excited about the upcoming release on June 20, 2020 of this 17-Disc set The Book of Iona is an understatement. This is a UK band that is epic in all areas: Quality production, lyrics, vocals, composition, instrumentation, themes and so on. Their music is ethereal and pure of the highest order. Just to name a few guest artists on their albums: Maire Brennan (Clannad), Robert Fripp (King Crimson), Peter Whitfield, Chris Eaton, Heather Findlay and Fiona Davidson.

I have known this band for many years and had the privilege of writing two lyrics on their Journey Into The Morn CD (the title piece and the very popular “Inside My Heart”).

The new box set will feature many unheard pieces, including a new song with my lyrics All That We Have Ever Dreamed. Plus, a beautiful new version of Journey Into The Morn.

This massive collection is sure to be a winner with Iona fans and bring new listeners on board as well. The Book of Iona will include every Iona studio album plus rare, unreleased studio recordings, demo recordings, different mixes and new instrumentals that feature Iona members from over the band’s history.

The box set will also include a 24-page A4 book full of previously unseen photos of the band and recently written sleeve notes to accompany each disc, a signed and numbered certificate and reproduction memorabilia and publicity photos..”

A little background on the band: “Formed in 1989, IONA take their name from the small island off the west coast of Scotland. From the beginning, their aim has been to write spiritual, atmospheric, yet uplifting music that would stir the emotions, weaving complex patterns that echo the intricate knot work of the great Celtic artists. Often inspired by the great figures of the Celtic Golden Age such as Columba, Aidan, Brendan and Patrick, IONA's music is as timeless as the message that reaches out to us across the centuries.”

Reviews: ‘Their music seems to draw from the collective memories of an entire race of people - Bob Darden - Billboard (USA)’

‘... an exhilarating contemporary folk act, able to press traditional instruments convincingly into service alongside their electric counterparts ... rarely has the Celtic thing been given so many welcome twists, or played with such conviction.’ ‘Q’ MAGAZINE (UK)
