Kaye Dobbie's - When Shadows Fall - An Epic Time Travelling Mystery

Kaye Dobbie’s ‘When Shadow’s Fall’ is without doubt one of the best and most creative time travel stories I have ever read. I was captivated by the style and story from the very start and held completely enthralled to the end.

Kaye takes us on a spellbinding journey through the very likeable character, Kate O’Hara, an actress who has recently lost her husband. She ventures to a secluded rustic cottage on the banks of a river in Tasmania, to find some quiet time to reflect and paint. From the very beginning her interlude is anything but calming or uneventful for she becomes caught up in the historical mystery of a missing boatman named Devlin, from Australia’s convict days.

A ghost, a mysterious white cat, a fascinating painting and a cottage that teeters on two worlds and timelines, draws us hypnotically like a thread through the eye of a needle into riveting drama that unfolds in ways one would never expect. History comes alive, literally, for Kate, as she becomes part of its rustic fabric. There she faces choices that will affect her presence/existence in the modern world.

Kaye renders an ending that is both satisfying and exciting for the reader who is cheering Kate on to maintain the happiness she has found in another realm, after being lost for years in an unhappy marriage. The description, dialogue and plot pacing are perfect. Not to mention the fascinating characters.

It is a story about self-discovery, finding freedom and how to hold on to it. But most of all, it is a haunting love story that crosses the barriers of time.

I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a unique romantic time travelling historical mystery. It is 5 stars from me! 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
