A Song about Emily Bronte (Cindy L Spear & Colin Mold)

To say that I am a fan of Emily Bronte’s novel and poetry is an understatement. Her writing inspired me from a young age. The magic of her vision and words linger in my mind and continue to haunt and provoke creativity in me. I have written many poems and song lyrics about her and her characters and included her influence in my current fiction project. I have watched the various movies available based on her brilliant Wuthering Heights novel and purchased books about her life. I just discovered today, to my delight, there is a movie about her coming out in October from Warner UK. See this link for trailer. Yes, I will want a front row seat!

My collaborator, UK multi-instrumentalist and singer, Colin Mold, has taken two of my Emily Bronte - Wuthering Heights lyrics and woven them into some lovely music and added his English vocals. They are part of a fictional trilogy in progress (currently working on book 3). The first song Passing Through can be found here and is about Wuthering Heights. The song below— titled Emily— is, of course, about the author herself. I hope you enjoy them.📚❤️🎶

EMILY

This is a love that has no measure

Deep and profound as one can be

Set in this lonely fortress waiting

To find a way to be complete

How can a soul express such longing?

How can a heart render such grief?

Torn far apart within the knowing

That time will sometimes be a thief

Chorus:

O Emily, the moors are sighing

Your wind swept heart is all they want

You are the mistress of their calling

Come wear the heather and the moss

I see the rock and solemn refuge

So many miles to Wuthering Heights

The mystery of a tale unfolding

That cries of schemes and haunted nights

I hear their breathing through the grasslands

The moth and moon upon the path

The sleepers restless in their grave clothes

Are ghosts of passion that will last

Bridge:

Though there’s a chill across the Yorkshires

Among these ruins is a friend

Here lies the white bones of a poet~

A fatal kiss that never ends

I dream of moor, and misty hill
Where evening closes dark and chill;
For, lone, among the mountains cold
Lie those that I have loved of old.
— Emily Bronte
I’m passing through this haunted land
Where weathered hills cross stormy paths
Lit by the chills of heather skies—
These clouded moors welcome the night
